The following are all highly-rated and are currently free:

Alto's Odyssey - A serene snowboarding game with fluid graphics and beautiful scenery.

Mini Metro - A hypnotic strategy game that challenges players to plan the perfect commute. More fun than it sounds.

Prune - Described as a "love letter to trees", this is a simple puzzle game with lush Japanese imagery where you have to use a sword to carefully trim a rapidly-growing tree.

Kingdom Rush Origins - The latest in the classic tower defense series that's become an addictive worldwide phenomenon.

Don’t forget: Apple Arcade gives you access to thousands of games like Oceanhorn 2, Unleash the Light and Cat Quest for about a fiver a month.

Minimoog Model D Synthesizer - A digital sim of the classic 70s analog synth. Normally about a fiver but it's now free to download.

Korg Kaossilator - Make your own tracks by layering beats and loops. Normally costs a score, but currently free too.

GarageBand - Not new or unknown, but is free and surprisingly powerful. Plenty of instruments, sounds and loops to play with.

Affinity - Serif is making its suite of creative apps free for the next three months. They’re decent alternatives for Photoshop, InDesign, et al.

Illustrator Draw - A mobile-specific port of the Adobe classic. Sketch, draw and paint anyone, and import photos too from Capture.
